Description:

****During the COVID-19 response period, assistance will be available until funds are exhausted. People can apply by calling (847) 249-4330.
Weatherization Assistance has been suspended per state request until further notice.
1. Press #1 for Services, a case manager will assist in completing a basic application over the telephone
- Calls must be between the hours of 9:00 am-4:00 pm

2. Once the basic intake information is completed, the case manager will confirm documentation needed to submit in order to process the application.

3. Documentation can be submitted via email, photos from a cell phone, or dropped off at one of our lock box locations.

Offers application assistance to LIHEAP, PIPP, and Weatherization Programs.

LIHEAP:
Assists qualified households to pay the costs of their propane, electric, or gas bill once a year. Agency will also assist those clients whose utility has already been turned off. Households facing shutoff may receive immediate help at emergency service sites.

PIPP:
Provide Nicor Gas customers with an affordable, level payment plan and a chance to eliminate past due balances. Allows eligible customers to pay a percentage of their monthly income to maintain their utility service.

SHARE THE WARMTH:
Provides annual grants up to $200 for North Shore Gas customers who are struggling to pay their heating bills. Customers can apply for a grant through the Community Action Partnership of Lake County.

WEATHERIZATION (suspended per state request until further notice):
Provides information on energy-efficiency and conservation practices. Assesses the needs of the home and makes a list of recommendations for the installation crew. Updates to the residence include attic and wall insulation, air sealing, window and door weatherization, and furnace repair and replacement.

Eligibility:

- Must be Lake County resident.
- Must meet low-income eligibility requirement.

Intake Process:

Call for an appointment. Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteer Opportunities:

1) Youth & Family Services Volunteer: Food Pantry - Annual Holiday Basket Give-Away during the month of December. Volunteers are needed to sort groceries and pack holiday baskets for Lake County families in need. Youth volunteers welcome.

2) Head Start Volunteer: Volunteers will assist children 3 to 5 years of age for at least 1-2 hours, 1-2 days per week for the school year. Assistants help children with Literacy, Math, Reading, Social & Emotional Development and more.

3) Changing Lives Upscale Resale Shop: Volunteers will assist customers; ring sales in cash register; sort, stock, price, tag, organize and hang merchandise on racks and shelves; and/or assist with packing seasonal items for storage area.

4) Program Office Support: Volunteers will be assigned to assist departments with clerical support, such as data entry, phone calls, and filing.

5) Annual Anti-Poverty Walk: The 1st Saturday in May, volunteers load and unload tables and chairs, set-up & breakdown tents and check-in walkers at registration. Other volunteers are needed along the 5K route to man water stops and finish-line concession stands.

6) Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service: We are looking for Volunteer readers who will read age-appropriate books to Head Start children ages 3-5 years old.
