Offers application assistance to LIHEAP, PIPP, and Weatherization Programs.

LIHEAP:
Assists qualified households to pay the costs of their propane, electric, or gas bill once a year. Assists clients whose utilities has been turned off. Households facing shutoff may receive immediate help at emergency service sites. Eligible households may also qualify for furnace assistance if deemed inoperable or unsafe by fuel vendor.

PIPP:
Provide Nicor Gas customers with an affordable, level payment plan and a chance to eliminate past due balances. Allows eligible customers to pay a percentage of their monthly income to maintain their utility service.

SHARE THE WARMTH:
Provides annual grants up to $200 for NorthShore Gas customers who are struggling to pay their heating bills. Customers can apply for a grant through the Community Action Partnership of Lake County.

WEATHERIZATION:
Provides information on energy-efficiency and conservation practices. Assesses the needs of the home and makes a list of recommendations for the installation crew. Offers to make homes of low-income families more energy efficient. Services includes: attic and wall insulation, air sealing, window and door weatherization, and furnace repair and replacement

Eligibility:

Must be a Lake County resident. Income Requirement: 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. See website for guidelines.

Intake Process:

Call to apply. Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Documents Required:
- Photo ID
- Proof of income for the last 30 days
- Social Security cards for all household members
- Current utility bill

All LIHEAP applications are currently being processed by phone. Please call the main number and follow the prompts for further assistance. Press #1 for Services, a case manager will assist in completing a basic application over the telephone
- Calls must be between the hours of 9:00 am-4:00 pm
- Once the basic intake information is completed, the case manager will confirm documentation needed to submit in order to process the application.
- Documentation can be submitted via email, photos from a cell phone, or dropped off at one of our lock box locations.

Volunteer Opportunities:

- Youth & Family Services Volunteer: Food Pantry - Annual Holiday Basket Give-Away during the month of December. Volunteers are needed to sort groceries and pack holiday baskets for Lake County families in need. Youth volunteers welcome.

- Annual Anti-Poverty Walk: The 1st Saturday in May, volunteers load and unload tables and chairs, set-up & breakdown tents and check-in walkers at registration. Other volunteers are needed along the 5K route to man water stops and finish-line concession stands.
