Description:
Allows seniors to defer part or all the property taxes on their personal residence. The maximum amount to be deferred is $5000.
Eligibility:
To be eligible, individuals must:
- Be 65 years of age or older;
- Total household income must be $55,000 or less;
- Own and occupy the residence, or other qualifying property in Illinois for the last 3 years (except for any period individuals may have temporarily resided in a licensed nursing home).
- Property cannot be income producing (e.g. rental income)
- Property taxes must be current at the time of application.
