Description:
Offers various programs to help seniors save money on their property taxes. Programs include the following:
- Senior Homestead Exemption: Lowers the equalized assessed value of the property by $5,000.
- Senior Citizen's Assessment Freeze: Provides protection against real estate tax increases for seniors with limited income. It is not a tax freeze or a tax reduction and does not protect against increased taxes due to tax rate increases. Applications must be submitted by July 31, 2021.
- Senior Citizen Deferral Program: Allows senior citizens to defer part or all the property taxes on their residence.
Eligibility:
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be 65 years of age or older;
- Own and live in the property as their principal residence;
- Have total household income of $65,000 or less for Senior Freeze.
