Description:

Provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to be involved in community programs. Programs include:
- Social outings
- Dances
- Indoor and outdoor fitness programs
- Art and craft programs
- Bowling leagues
- Summer, spring, and winter day camps
- Virtual programs
- Sports teams that compete in the Special Olympics of Illinois

Eligibility:

Must be individuals who have varying degrees of physical disabilities, mental handicaps, learning disabilities, emotional difficulties, hearing or visual impairments and developmental delays
Must be a person 6 years or older, dependent on program offerings
Must be a Waukegan resident

Languages:

Spanish
Interpreter services available

Program Fees:

Fees vary, dependent per program and residency

Volunteer Opportunities:

1. Waukegan Park District Special Events offered to community throughout the year - assist with event activities such as games, crafts, traffic, parking and participant line control.
2. Specific Special Recreation program volunteer opportunities available per season - Assist with activity implementation and/or participants with specific task related to program offering.

We accept volunteers who are court mandated to complete community service.
