Homeless Prevention

Description:

*There are currently two EAP intake lines:
847-782-4100 available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
847-254-2226 available Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM - Noon and 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.*

Provides financial assistance to help individuals and families recover from emergency situations. Offers emergency food services for clients to meet short term nutritional needs. Also offers short term motel shelter stays and referrals to resources for people who are homeless. Helps clients with payment for prescriptions, rent, security deposits, mortgage, and utility bills. Also helps clients with gasoline for new job, interview, or doctor appointment.

NOTE: Rental assistance is available for COVID-19 reasons. There is a small amount of rental, mortgage, and security deposit assistance currently remaining for non-COVID related reasons.

Eligibility:

Must be Lake County resident to receive assistance.

Rent/mortgage/security deposit assistance:
-Must have sufficient income to pay for monthly bills after assistance is provided.

Utility assistance:
- Outstanding amount must not be more than $100 and the utility bill must be under the name of the head of household.

Transportation (gasoline) assistance:
- Transportation assistance must be needed for new job, job interview, or doctor's appointment.
- Must have a valid driver's license, car insurance, and car registration.
- Clients are eligible once every 12 months.

Documents required:
Rent/Mortgage/Security Deposit Assistance:
- Proof of income
- Documentation of financial emergency

Utility Assistance:
- Copy of utility bill in the name of the head of household
- Outstanding bill amount must be $100 or under.

Transportation Assistance:
- Valid driver's license
- Car insurance
- Car registration
- Verification of a new job, interview, or doctor's appointment.

Prescription Assistance:
- Must provide written prescription by doctor.
