Description:

Offers opportunity for home ownership to low-income families in Lake County. Offers interest-free mortgage to qualified families in exchange for "sweat equity". Families must participate in homeownership classes, financial education, and budgeting sessions. They must also commit to helping build or rehabilitate other homes in the community.

Eligibility:

- Must be a Lake County resident for at least two years and a legal U.S. resident
- Must meet HUD income guidelines of 50-80% of the area median income based on family size
- Current housing must be substandard or inadequate (overcrowded, unsafe, or unaffordable), accessibility is needed, or family income is insufficient to afford a conventional mortgage
- Families must agree to contribute Sweat Equity for at least 500 hours of building Habitat homes, completing 40 weekly financial education classes, monthly budgeting sessions, and other homeowner education classes

- Visit website for application, or pick up paper application during service hours
- Completed applications can be submitted in-person or mailed
- Applications are reviewed during application cycles throughout the year
- Families will be notified if they qualify or require further documentation
