Description:

Provides eligible renter households with up to 6 months of financial assistance with rent based on need and as funds allow.

Eligibility:

- Must pay rent in Lake County
- Must have a COVID-related financial hardship (job loss, furlough, reduced hours due to school closures, unexpected medical or other expenses)
- Must be at risk of homelessness or housing instability
- Applicants must be in arrears (debt that is overdue after missing one or more required payments) to receive assistance
- Can only receive 1 month forward rent
- Must meet income guidelines:

- May not receive duplicate rental assistance from other sources to cover the same expense.

Intake Process:

Electronic referrals from 211 preferred. Applications must be submitted electronically through www.LakeCountyIL.gov/RentHelp. Applicants are encouraged to call this provider to schedule an intake appointment before submitting an application.

Documents Required:
- Current lease
- Documentation of a COVID-related financial hardship (layoff or furlough notice, closure of place of work or child!€™s school, medical bills, etc.)
- Documentation that the household is at risk of homelessness or housing instability (past due rent or utility notice, etc.)
- Documentation of household income
