The Haven

Description:

Provides shelter and housing options for women and their children experiencing homelessness. Once clients find work, they will start paying rent in the shelter or transitional housing.

The shelter program offers two homes located in Libertyville for women and their children. The average length of stay in the program is three to five months.

Offers assistance with:
- gaining employment
- paying down debt
- saving money (residents are required to save a minimum of 80 percent of their income while in shelter)
- furthering education
- maintaining sobriety
- learning effective parenting, &
regaining custody of children in foster care

Development of an individualized self-sufficiency plan includes the following classes and services:
- budgeting
- parenting
- resume-writing
- life skills classes
- in-house support group
- employment or psychological counseling
- case management that oversees the emotional, educational, and health needs of the children are being met
- tutoring is available for both adults and children
- assistance with all public benefits applications

* Also provides free transportation (when available) to:
- grocery stores
- job interviews
- work
- support groups
- childcare services

The Transitional Housing Program provides a step between the shelter and independent living. The length of stay in these units ranges from six months to two years, with the average being nine months. Residents are offered:
- clean & safe dwellings sub-leased to residents at an affordable price.
- continued, high-quality case management services

Eligibility:

Program Fees:

Shelter Rent (once clients find work): $25/week
Rent fees vary by unit and/or income in transitional housing.

Intake Process:

Step 1:
Call 847-680-5408 to complete a phone intake.

Step 2:
Complete and send in application. Applications can be mailed, faxed, or emailed to you. You can also download one from www.LakeCountyHaven.org. Applications should be returned to PO Box 127, Libertyville, IL 60048 or faxed to 847-680-4360

Step 3:
Complete interview with Case Manager.

Step 4:
When there are program openings, shelter staff calls applicants who have been interviewed. The first applicant to return the call will be offered the bed.
