Description:

Collaborates with local law enforcement to provide alternative course of action for non-violent juvenile offenders. Participants are referred by law enforcement and attend Teen Court where they are sentenced by a jury of their peers. Sentences are intended to treat the source of delinquent behavior and prevent future offenses. Provides life skills training, mental health counseling, substance use services and community service.

Eligibility:

- Must be 10-17 years old or 18 years old and still in high school
- Must be a non-violent offense committed in Lake County (no felonies or traffic violations)
- Can be first or second offense only
- Both child and parent/guardian must agree to fully participate

Program Fees:

Set Program Fee: $50 one-time fee

Intake Process:

Referral required from Round Lake Beach Police, Round Lake Police, Round Lake Heights Police, Round Lake Park Police, Fox Lake Police, Wauconda Police, Lakemoor Police, Gurnee Police, Waukegan Police, and Lake County Sheriff.

Documents required:
-Referrals from police must come with a completed police report

Volunteer Opportunities:

Teen Court Juror - teen volunteers fill various roles in the peer court room (including attorneys, bailiff, jury, etc.) and will provide meaningful, alternative sentences to participates in the program so they can have a second chance and connect meaning to their behaviors while learning healthier ways to live.
